Ao Tho Li & Samet Nang She Viewpoint | PHANG NGA – THAILAND

Ao Tho Li viewpoint is situated on the edge of Phang Nga Bay in Southern Thailand. While there are 155 islands in the Andaman Ocean on the West Coast of Thailand, 42 small islands amongst those sit in the shallow-ish water of Phang Nga Bay territory. As the viewpoint is high up on the hillside, visitors can enjoy the fantastic view overlooking the North part of Phang Nga Bay.

Phang Nga is one of our favourite provinces in Thailand, as you can probably tell from the amount of posts we have published on things to do and places to go in this province.Β  Having visited a few beaches, waterfalls and local sites, we were very excited to visit its famous viewpoint at last.

While the view up there was pretty breath-taking, we were dying to get back in our van with air-con after being outside for only a few minutes (we were there around noon!).Β  The good news is visitors are allowed to stay overnight in tents at the viewpoint, which means they can enjoy the truly stunning landscape at both sunrise and sunset (without feeling like walking inside an erupting volcano).

Ao Tho Li is a sister viewpoint of a nearby viewpoint “Samet Nang She” which is considerably much more well-known.Β Β We would say the view at Samet Nang She is a little more impressive, but if you want to avoid the crowd then Ao Tho Li is a better option.

#LOLTIPS

β€’Β  The road up to Ao Tho Li viewpoint is very steep and narrow.Β  Unless you are a confident driver on a decent vehicle, do not drive up there (perhaps find a tour service).

β€’Β  For Samet Nang She viewpoint, visitors are required to be transported there by theirΒ 4-wheel pickup truck only (costs a few dollars per person).Β  The gravel road is step and very bumpy and is not ideal for pregnant women or elders.

BONUS

In this video you can see the more Southern part ofΒ Phang Nga BayΒ (taken byΒ our drone which we sent out from Koh Yao Noi Phuket two years ago).
