Myanmar Freediving Spot “Laem Tuptim” | MERGUI ARCHIPELAGO
Laem Tuptim Pinnacle is one of the more memorable spots as it is up against a pinnacle with a sea wall that drops at least 20m straight down. Along the wall, from the surface of the water, you have a stunning variety of sea fans of all colours sizes and shapes with a myriad of tiny fish and decent sized schools of big fish in attendance.
During our stay at the Nyaung Oo Phee Island Resort, we did about 9 separate freediving trips across about 4 diveΒ locations located super close to the resort itself.Β We had rumours of spectacular dive locations teeming with marine life before, and after this trip we can confirm that the rumours are true!
WeΒ thoroughly enjoyed every single one–they were all vastly different but had us not wanting to leave on each occasion.Β However…
Laem Tuptim PinnacleΒ is one of the more memorable spots as it is up against a pinnacle with a sea wall that drops at least 20m straight down. It is a PERFECT freediving spot as it offers a true depth to explore with great rewards if you do make the effort.

However, the current around Laem Tuptim Pinnacle is usually quite strong and so the visibility here is not so great most of the time.Β Fortunately it is not far from other snorkelling spotsΒ which has a good variety of marine life.
We saw: Turtles, Boxfish, Cuttlefish, Banded Sea Kraits, Huge Jellyfish, Flutefish, Stonefish, StingraysΒ as well as the usual Andaman Sea crew of clownfish, parrotfish, angel fish, fields of sea anemones and stag coral.
If you ever visit Nyaung Oo Phee Island, we highly recommend you to stay overnight (rather than going there on a day trip).Β Join the inclusive snorkelling excursion, but do mention to the staff team you would like to be taken to Laem Tuptim Pinnacle.Β If the weather/sea condition is suitable for the staff team to bring guests to Laem Tuptim then you are in luck!
